If you are aiming for a B.Tech seat in Odisha in 2026, the road leads through the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) cell. Whether you are a JEE Main topper or waiting for the Special OJEE, this step-by-step roadmap ensures you never miss a deadline.

Phase 1: The Entrance Exam (January – May 2026)

In Odisha, 1st-year B.Tech admissions are primarily based on JEE Main scores. However, the OJEE cell manages the entire counseling process.
Step 1: Appear for JEE Main 2026. Most seats in top government colleges like OUTR and VSSUT are filled via JEE Main ranks.
Step 2: The 'Special OJEE' Option. If you missed JEE Main or want to improve your chances for private colleges, apply for the Special OJEE 2026 (Registrations tentatively start in June 2026).
Step 3: Lateral Entry (LE-Tech). If you are a Diploma holder, you must appear for the regular OJEE exam (held in May 4–9, 2026) to enter the 2nd year directly.

Phase 2: Online Registration & Choice Filling (June – July 2026)

Once results are out, the 'Web-Based Counseling' begins at ojee.nic.in. This phase determines your college based on your rank and preferences.
Registration: Create a profile using your JEE Main/OJEE Application Number and pay the counseling fee (approx. ₹450).
Choice Filling: This is the most critical step. List your preferred colleges and branches in order of priority.
Strategic Tip: Always place Government Colleges (OUTR, VSSUT, IGIT) at the top, followed by premium autonomous colleges (Silicon, GITA, NIST).
Choice Locking: After the Mock Allotment, you must Lock your choices to confirm them.

Phase 3: Seat Allotment & Reporting (July – August 2026)

OJEE usually conducts 3 rounds of allotment plus a 'Final/Spot Round'. You will need to decide whether to 'Freeze' or 'Float' your allotted seat.
Freeze vs. Float: Choose 'Freeze' to secure a seat you love, or 'Float' to try for a better college in the next round.
Document Upload: Upload scanned copies of your 10th/12th certificates, Residence Certificate, and applicable category certificates.
Part-Admission Fee: Pay the seat acceptance fee (₹10,000 for General / ₹5,000 for Reserved) online to retain your seat.

Phase 4: Final Reporting at College

After the final allotment round, download your Final Allotment Letter. You must visit the allotted college in person with your original documents and the balance admission fee to confirm your enrollment for the 2026-27 session.
